The portable brake maintenance unit BW 1408 was developed for use with 5 liter original, commercial-type canisters of brake fluid. As an option, the BW 1408 is available with an integrated 6 liter refill tank (BW 1408 T RoTWIN, BW 1408 TA RoTWIN). The compact size makes it ideal for mobile use on the go. Both versions are available with and without pre-draining systems for the master cylinder. This device has been equipped with the new RoTWIN technology, which uses a new double reciprocating piston pump to generate a significantly higher flow pressure to thoroughly vent and bleed brake lines to compensate for the pressure loss caused by internal control elements (brake assistants, etc.). Design and function The durable and padded handle makes transport easy – even with a full container. Pressure is adjustable from 0 to 3.5 bar. The brake fluid is drawn from the container with a patent-protected tank pipe fitted a with either a ribbed, cone shaped adapter to fit different spouts or, rather a screw cap for the version with the integrated tank. Note: The adapter must be screwed into the container opening clockwise in order to ensure a tight fit of the tank pipe and must be unscrewed in order to remove it. Connection to the vehicle At first, the appropriate adapter (accessory) is mounted to the vehicle’s master cylinder. The device is then connected to the adapter via the filling hose with quick coupling. Procedure The special operation of the reciprocating piston pump prevents foaming of the new brake fluid and the higher flow pressure flushes the smallest gas and dirt particles out of the brake lines. The level and working pressure in the container / tank are continuously monitored. If the working pressure deviates or when the container / tank is empty, the red level lamp lights up and the device shuts off automatically which prevents air from accidentally entering the braking system. When the filling and venting process on the vehicle is completed and the unit is switched off, the remaining pressure in the filling hose is reduced. The adapter can be uncoupled as soon as the pressure is completely relieved (otherwise the brake fluid may run off).
