Nigeria's First Female Pilot

Chinyere Kalu made history as the first female pilot in Nigeria. With her unprecedented achievements, she set the pace for others to follow. In Africa in general, she is a motivator for young girls. Her life for them is a proof that no dream is actually too far to achieve if they believe and work hard.

She's a mother of 3. After her primary and secondary education in Lagos, the brave lady trained as a private and commercial pilot at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria in 1978.

Chinyere kalu has always been an audacious personality. Regardless of the timing of choosing this stereotypical 'manly' profession, she went on with her quest of being a pilot. Having an encouraging aunt was a plus to her daring nature. She has been conferred a member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria owing to her accomplishments in aviation.

In October 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed her the Rector and Chief Executive of the largest aviation training institute in Africa, College of aviation Technology. A very Prestigious rank it was though it lasted for a while. She also displayed undoubted proficiency in the Nigerian aviation sector. As far back as the 80's she had become a flying instructor.

Chinyere has become so prominent that she is included in Nigeria's top 50 greatest women of all times. Over time she has accrued numerous awards and accolades. In 2004 for instance, she was inducted into the Nigeria women Achievers' Hall of Fame by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development's National Centre for Women.

She is best described as a lover of knowledge and a development enthusiast. Despite her prowess in her aviation career, Chinyere still finds pleasure in her normal womanly domestic duties. She loves to travel, she is a life coach and a vocation consultant.
