Carpartsnigeria Registered Service Vendors are taking part in the 2016 Training with Oando Plc for mechanics in Lagos.

This programme, designed to support the diversification of the economy which is vital to the development of any nation, breeding self-reliance and entrepreneurship amongst technically-oriented individuals, is in its second year, after having successfully graduated 100 auto-mechanics in its first stream. This year 2016 Car Parts Nigeria registered service vendors are taking part in the training with Oando Plc for mechanics in Lagos.

The participants, who undergo a highly rigorous selection process are admitted into the 3-month training programme and are exposed to a well-designed training curriculum developed in partnership with Automedics as facilitators; a well-renowned auto-mobile company with a mechatronics training arm. The syllabus combines classroom and onsite training methods, with special emphasis on auto diagnosis and repair, usage of modern diagnostic tools, mechatronics, and advanced training in automotive electrical systems, lubrication knowledge and application.

The initiative is part of the company’s Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) to bridge the skills gap in the nation, focusing on the the automotive industry whilst improving their social status and relevance in their communities through training and skills upgrade. This programme also equips them with internationally-recognised technical and life skills for their benefit and that of the nation as well. As the automobile industry constantly advances, and the demand for efficiency, expertise and customer experience increases, there is a need for mechanics to upgrade their skills and keep abreast on industry trends and the ever-changing consumer market space.

One of the beneficiaries, Opeyemi Bello thanked Oando Marketing PLC for the opportunity to be able to improve his skills and expand his technical knowledge. He said “this has opened my eyes to a lot of things, now I can work on different cars and models and give the right solutions to my customers. I am so glad that I was a part of this; I have learnt a lot.”

Following the graduation ceremony, the Oleum Academy alumni received auto-diagnostic starter packs, and other work tools to support their trade practice.

Especially now that the Nigerian government has encouraged the growth of skills acquisition and training with initiatives such as the Industrial Training Fund, it behoves on the private sector to support this initiative through a systematic and deliberate training necessary to combat sub-standard products and service delivery; keeping professionals’ up-to date with the development in their automotive sector, of which Oando Marketing is blazing the trail.
